History. The Dakota Gasification Company is a subsidiary of the Basin Electric Power Cooperative which is located in Bismarck, North Dakota.

Dakota Gasification Company, a for-profit subsidiary of Basin Electric Power Cooperative, owns and operates the Great Plains Synfuels Plant near Beulah, North Dakota. The Synfuels Plant is the only commercial-scale coal gasification facility in the United States that manufactures natural gas.

Dakota Gasification Company's anhydrous ammonia is a nitrogen fertilizer used on various types of agricultural crops. It is also used as feedstock for producing various other chemicals because of its high nitrogen content.

Biomass such as forestry residues or energy crops are used. To make Bio-SNG, biomass is initially dried and goes through initial gasification. After this, it undergoes gas conditioning, SNG synthesis, and finally gas upgrading.
